Building proposal: The idea of the two-storey house is based on the blending of two archetypical typologies of the traditional island architecture which are redefined in the context of contemporary architecture: The first one is the row of dry-stone wall called “pezoula” that characterizes the Greek island countryside. In the traditional Greek island architecture, a pezoula would retain the soil of a slope and transform it into a cultivable area. The second one is the simple rectangular volume with the pitched roof residence - a characteristic typology of the Ioanian architecture and Zakynthos. In the traditional Ionian architecture, the first floor of a house would project from the ground floor. This way, the streets would keep the appropriate sizes and at the same time more floor space would be provided to the residence. On the east side of the volume lies the main outdoor area and the pool of the residence with unobstructed views to the sea.

The residence consists of four levels:

On the basement level, there is the garage area, the gym and storage spaces. On the ground floor, there are the three main bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms and a communal playroom. On the first floor, there are all the living areas (living room, kitchen and dining area) and the pool. Due to the generous height of the first floor, a mezzanine is created, which hosts the guest room and an office.

Zakynthos is the most southern of the Ionian Islands and one of the most popular Greek islands.
